Home Warranty vs. Homeowner Insurance

Homeowner or hazard insurance covers private homes. Such policies combine various personal insurance protections, which can include losses occurring to one's home, its contents, and other personal belongings of the homeowner. It is there to cover you in case of theft or other unlikely disasters.

A home protection plan is very simple. It is a renewable, one year service contract that covers the repair or replacement of most of the home system components and major appliances that will normally break down over time. In other words, it covers your home's functioning components that you simply cannot live without and repairs or replaces them when they break down.

Unfortunately, most homes experience two mechanical failures each year. With HSC’s home warranty you can avoid unexpected appliance and home system repair or replacement expenses as well as the hassle that comes with them.

Home Buyer Benefits

Buying a home? The Home Service Club has three home buyer plans created specifically for real estate transactions. All three of these plans cover unknown pre-existing conditions, rust & corrosion, misuse, improper installations, lack of maintenance and other perils traditionally not covered by a regular homeowner home warranty. Our RE-Pro plans were designed with the home buyer in mind so that you can worry about the move, and not about the breakdowns.

Home Seller Benefits

Selling your home? Home sellers can benefit two-fold from a home warranty. The seller listing coverage helps protect the home from unexpected breakdowns while the home is on the market, while adding the home buyer warranty may help sell the home sell faster, make it more marketable, and instill confidence in your customers.

Answers to Questions About Home Warranty Plans and Pricing

  • How much does a Home Service Club home warranty cost?

he size and location of your home, as well as the type of plan and Trade Service Call Fee you select are just some of the many factors that can affect the cost of a home warranty plan. You can get your free quote online or by calling us at (800) 601-1009.

  • What is the Trade Service Call Fee?

The Trade Service Call Fee, also known as the deductible, is a pre-set, one-time fee that you pay per claim on covered and approved repairs or replacements.

  • My real estate plan has expired; do I now have to switch to a regular homeowner plan?

No. Although the RE-Pro home warranty plans are exclusively for real estate transactions, they are fully renewable. As long as there is no lapse in coverage, you can renew your home buyer plan and continue enjoying its benefits.

  • Why does The Home Service Club offer three different deductible (Trade Service Call Fee) options?

Having different deductible options allows us to offer more flexibility to our customers. Everyone’s home is different - some homes are older, others are newer, some have been remodeled and others still have older systems and appliances. Choosing a higher Trade Service Call Fee lowers your monthly plan price allowing for a more affordable plan option which can be advantageous for newer homes in good condition. Choosing a lower Trade Service Call Fee, on the other hand, increases your monthly premium price but reduces your out-of-pocket expenses on covered repairs.

It may be an advantage to choose a lower Trade Service Call Fee if your home has many older systems and appliances and is at a higher risk of breakdowns. This way if you use your plan a lot during the home warranty term, you will save on the Trade Service Call Fee every claim. If your covered systems and appliances are newer, then it may be more beneficial to select a higher Trade Service Call Fee and lower your monthly payments.

Your deductible, also known as the Trade Service Call Fee, is selected at the time of purchase and can only be updated within the first 30 days of buying the plan. It can later be changed only upon the renewal of your plan.

Please note that customers with RE-Pro real estate home warranty plans cannot choose their Trade Service Call Fee.

  • When I sell my home, can the new home-buyer take over the plan and the payments?

Yes. Your home warranty is fully transferable to the new buyer and you can simply just update the payment method.

  • Can I break up the Utility Line package to cover an individual line?

No. The Utility & Service Line coverage comes only as a complete package, which enables us to offer our customers the broadest protection at the best possible prices. The one exception is the Sprinkler Line Coverage which can be added separately as a stand-alone option to any plan. The Sprinkler / Home Irrigation Line coverage can be added to both homeowner and homebuyer plans alike, and comes already included in the RE-Pro real estate Comprehensive Coverage plan.
